How to print a memory book as a PDF.
When the pages are gathered, the last step is turning them into a file a printer can use. This guide covers the export settings, how to check the result, and what to ask a print service.
1. Open the print view
In your book, open the “⋯” menu at the bottom left and choose Export for print. Fondly lays out every page at the exact size you picked in book settings, for example 8 × 10 inches, with the cover first, then a contents page, your accepted memories, and a closing page.
2. Choose Save as PDF
Press Save as PDF. In your browser's print dialog, choose Save as PDF as the destination. The page size is set for you. If the dialog shows a margins option, pick None, and turn on Background graphics so the photographs and page colour print as they appear on screen.
3. Check the file before you print
- Scroll through every page. Look for photographs cut off at an edge and for pages with very long text.
- Check that the page count is what you expect. One-sided books have a blank page facing each memory, which adds pages.
- The last leaf carries a small QR code that leads back to the online book.
4. Decide how to print
- At home: print two-sided if the book is set to two-sided, and use good paper for the cover.
- At a local print shop: bring the PDF on a USB stick or email it, and tell them the finished size.
- With a print-on-demand service: upload the PDF and choose a matching trim size. Most services want the cover as a separate upload, and the first page of the PDF doubles as your cover artwork.
One thing to ask a print service
Fondly sets each page at the exact trim size and does not add a bleed area. Some services ask for bleed on full-page images. Check the service's file requirements before you order, and ask if they can print from a trim-size PDF.
